8.A hearing ear dog

1.본문

I heard the fire truck siren behind us.

 "Grandma, here comes the truck!" I shouted to Grandma, but she couldn`t hear me. 

          도치구문(=the truck comes here.)

She coudln`t hear the siren, either.

But then, Grandma`s dog put his leg on her shoulder.

"Oh, that truck is coming very fast! Thank you, Toby! Good dog!"

She pulled the car to the side and then the fire truck passed by.

she petted Toby, and he looked happy.

                                  행복해 보인다.

We went into the restaurant. Toby stayed under the table right by Grandma,s feet.

During lunch, I asked Grandma how Toby became a Hearing dog.

Grandma can`t hear me, but she watches how my mouth and hands move and understand me.

She said, "He went to a special school where dogs get trained to help deaf people.

"No, Jack. Toby is a dog rescue center. A vet made sure he was smart and friendly to people," said grandma.

"I think he is!" I said as petted Toby gently.

We drove back to Grandma`s house. Toby sat on the kitchen floor, and Grandma started to cook. 

Then I remembered I had left my textbooks in Grandma`s car.

I ran to the car quickly to get my textbooks. It was very cold outside. I found the books in the car and then ran back to the house.

But the front door was locked!

"Grandma!" I shouted, but I knew she coudln`t hear me. I was so cold and worried. 

Suddenly, the door opened. There was Toby, junping and excited. There was Grandma, looking surprised.

"Jack!" she shouted. "What are you doing out here? You must be so cold!" I was so glad to be safe in the house again.

"I didn`t know that! Thank you for telling me! What would I do without your hearing ears?" said Grandma, petting Toby gently.

"Oh, Grandma, " I said, petting Toby too. "Don`t worry. Toby and I will make sure () you don`t miss a thing.

2.문법 - 도치구문

Grandma, Here comes the truck!

There was Toby, jumping and excited.

There was Grandma, looking surprised.

대부분의 영어 문장은 주로 주 + 동 + (그 외 잡) 이지만, 여기서 (그 외 잡) 을 강조하려고 (그 외 잡) + ... 을 만드려 할 때, 주 + 동 이 동 + 주 가 된다,

이것이 도치 구문이다.

예를 들어

이 문장은 

이렇게 이루어져 있는데,

이 문장을 도치 구문으로 바꾸면,

이렇게 된다.
